THE INSTITUTE OF UNLEARNING
A Week of Unlearning
The Institute of Unlearning is a space that cultivates the intersections in the visions of practitioners from Europe and the Middle-east.
Scholars, students, legal theorists, community activists, filmmakers, artists and other practitioners are gathering in Palermo to discuss and lay the ground for creating a permanent space for long-term intellectual and political collaborations.
For this event we created a website and graphic identity improvised on the traits of this organization which are in constant definition. The colors and graphics are both a reference to local imaginary and an indication of the core of unlearning concepts: rethinking old or consolidated knowledge and reframe it in a new and inclusive way.
The aim is to create pedagogical spaces in Palermo for knowledge production that relate to the Middle East and African societies and that are de-colonial from their inception.
The Institute of Unlearning materialized through A Week of Unlearning from June 03-11, 2019 in Teatro Garibaldi in the Kalsa neighbourhood of the city of Palermo. In these days, the participants based in the city, the Mediterranean, and abroad, proposed and developed participated activities in the form of workshops, collective walks, lectures, and praxis around the theme of unlearning.
