Design workshop - training and prototypes

A practical training course dedicated to the decoration process of majolica tiles: from the use of glazes to the experimentation of drawing techniques up to the firing of tiles.

The design process consists of multiple prototyping phases that lead to the final product as a sum of progressive experimentations. In each research path, there is a fundamental factor that determines the evolution of the project: the error. Failure is a founding formative element in both Design and Art.

To deepen the value of failure in creative experimentation we will use different analogical techniques to investigate the transformation of visual communication from analog to digital, creating a connection between a historical graphic excellence, the magazine "Sicilia", and the contemporary languages of the image, often limited to a standard format (e.g. Instagram).

Using biscuit tiles and self-produced glazing tools, the workshop proposes an investigation into the decoration techniques applied to rigid and standard sized supports.
